Hello!
I am so excited to be at Smith and to be sharing this new part of my life with everyone. Even though it’s far away from San Francisco, Smith already feels like a second home. I hope to double major in government (political science) and biology and possibly minor in economics or creative writing ( I really, really like to write).
I love feeling intellectual… I am a 70s girl living in a millennial world. My heart is definitely in the past, a world full of typewriters, polaroid camera, writing (snail) mail, those super cute cars and furniture and basically anything that is considered “hipster” today. Museums, coffee shops, and little bookstores are some of my favorite places. I dream of one day living right inside San Francisco or New York (or London, who knows!). I also love cats.
Throughout the years, I’ve definitely struggled with self image and the idea of who I am. I can say that I am a proud ENFJ (although recent personality tests question the core of my identity) who has come to love being herself. I have a dislike for jeans and a like for the glittery world of TopShop, Kate Spade, and J.Crew.
My family is composed of my parents and my cacti. I name EVERYTHING around me but the bae (my first cactus) is named Ferguson. My computer (the other bae) is Alfonso and is best friends with Ollie, my typewriter.
I read obsessively and some favorites are anything about Jennifer Egan, Haruki Murakami, the entire Shopaholic collection (guilty pleasure..), The Bell Jar, Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby, East of Eden, etc. I can be a lit snob and am sorry if you’re feelings are hurt when I don’t know anything about young adult fiction.
I am a fan of EVERYTHING by Miyazaki, 90s chick flicks (The Breakfast Club, 10 Things I Hate About You, He’s Just Not That Into You, Clueless..), Pixar, Wes Anderson, and obscure French films. You can definitely catch me watching some indie movie.
I avidly follow Adventure Time and will obsess with you. Basically I never really grew up and that is perfectly fine with me. I just started watching Steven Universe because Rebecca Sugar is just awesome.
I hope that you grow with me as we explore this little corner of the internet together. College is not a time to learn something earth-shattering but rather to develop a more enlightened persona. I’m ready to leave the comfort zone and experience what the world has to offer for myself.
As Candide said, “let us go and cultivate our garden.”
